Volunteering
Here are two of our volunteers working away in our craft room. Laura is sorting shoe laces. Why? Well, we have boxes of them in all sorts of colours, but they’re all muddled up. Laura sorts them into pairs and puts them out for our shoppers. That’s not all she does. Laura keeps our shelves tidy in the priced part of the store – she’s the one that folds all the fabrics, fills the bins and makes sure the books are tidy in the foyer.

Meanwhile, Penny is making up packs of felt squares. We get lots of felt offcuts, but Penny cuts them up, irons them if needed and puts them into packs of assorted colours ready for your projects. Penny will turn her hand to any job that needs to be done.

We need more volunteers like these two. Please consider joining us. We have lots of fun, and do a useful job of work at the same time.
Here is a list of some of the things a volunteer could do for our charity (some of them aren’t very glamorous, but they still need doing and some people don’t mind!):
Fundraising – we need a person who can sort through all the funding information, pick out the possibilities that are suitable for Scrappies and write the funding proposals (with help, of course).
Outreach – we need volunteers to go to meetings, fairs and markets to spread the word about Scrappies.

Drivers – we need people who can pick up scrap from various sources in various places and we also need people who can drive the van to our rural delivery sites where they set up a mini-Scrappies for the day and sell to people who can’t get to the store.
Shop Floor Workers – we need helpers in the store, keeping the shelves tidy and well stocked, greeting and helping shoppers, measuring fabric, suggesting ideas.
Assistant Counter Assistants – we need workers behind the counter completing sales, taking memberships and renewals, booking workshops and equipment rentals and answering questions about the store.
Computer Help – we need someone to keep our computers running. We have computers, but they need to be networked, updated, and working properly so that they can be used easily by our staff and other volunteers.
Cleaners – it’s a dirty job, but someone has to do it. By definition, a Scrapstore is full of rubbish, and one person’s trash is another’s treasure. That being said, there’s still some stuff that no-one wants and that has to be cleaned away. If you like sweeping, vacuuming, dusting and removing cobwebs we have the job for you!
Volunteers Perks – it’s not all hard grind! We like to gather socially for craft workshops, dinners, parties and other celebrations. Here’s a couple of pictures of some of our volunteers learning to do encaustic art.
